My Reliable Dell Latitude C600

September 9, 2006 · Posted in Mike's Blog

I have three computers here at home. I have an Athlon (2GHz), Duron (800MHz), and a Dell Latitude C600 Laptop. I work on my laptop most of the time while the other two PCs are used by my wife and two daughters.

Thus far, I find my Dell Latitude C600 to be pretty reliable and fast. I bought it from some guy who sells used laptops. I’ve installed Debian Linux on it and replaced the CD-ROM with a DVD Combo Drive. Thus far, it works well without a fuss.

I do my web development projects on it as well as other personal stuff. Yes, I’m writing this blog post on it as well. :D Hehehe. I even play games on it and still works smoothly. The weight of the Dell Latitude C600 is acceptable and the battery’s lifespan is more than what I need.

The bad part is that I bought it for $600 (used price) and now Amazon sells it for less than half the price! If you’re planning to buy a used laptop yourself, then I would recommend taking the Dell Latitude C600. It’s just, well, perfect plus it now costs a lot less than what you would probably expect.

Instead of buying an internal wireless PCI Card, I instead bought a Wireless PC-Card that goes into the PCMCIA slot. As for the router, I use linksys. It works well. Total cost for both is about $100

Just bought an internal Intel 2200 card off ebay for $12.00. Works great. It was easy to install, pops in just like a memory module. The only problem I had was finding the U.Fl mini-coax cable that is required to connect the card to the internal antenna. Finally found one at a local computer repair shop for $2.00. 5 Minute total install time.
